The Two Mile High City
On August 19, 2018 by wanderstoriesMachu Picchu – UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New Seven Wonders of World. It was my goal to spend my 30th birthday here, but doing so meant flying into Cusco, the two mile high city. Cusco sits at 11,152 ft (3,399m) making it the 9th highest large city (> 100K inhabitants) in Read More
Rainforest Night Hike
On January 15, 2018 by wanderstoriesAfter spending a few weeks traveling up the east coast of Australia, I finally made it to Queensland and the great Daintree Rainforest. Always wanting to get the most out of a visit, I decided to stay in one of the remote cabins so I would have more time to see the area.
Most of my “treks” into the rainforest over the first few days were short (an hour or so) and limited to a boardwalk (so as to not disrupt the wildlife) – so you could imagine when I heard about a “night hike”, I imagined much of the same, but with a flashlight.
Boy, was I wrong.
You’ll Never Forget the First Time You Saw the Northern Lights
On October 14, 2017 by wanderstoriesI was staying at an inn near Skaftafell (on the east coast of Iceland). I’ve had plenty of wake-up calls in my life, but never an “Aurora Wake-Up Call” – which we of coursed opt-into.
Before retiring, we had a quick bite – too bad I barely had a spoonful of my kjotsupa (Icelandic lamb stew) before the alarm sounded. Incoming aurora!
Snacks on a Plane
On May 19, 2016 by wanderstoriesI’m never one to judge someone on saving a few dollars where they can so completely understand when travelers forgo the outrageously priced airport food, opting to pack a snack from home instead. Unfortunately, on our trip to Bali my brother learned the hard way that there are limits to brown-bagging it. To be fair, Read More
They call him Flipper
On January 8, 2016 by wanderstoriesActually, they call him Paulo. And he lives at the Atlantis resort in the Bahamas. And apparently I scared him. One cold blustery January, we traveled to the Bahamas to stay at Atlantis. Aside from endless pools to lounge and play in, Atlantis has heaps of aquatic animals to see. Of course, upon learning about Read More
Is it too soon to say “I Love You”?
On March 8, 2012 by wanderstoriesIt’s that age old question any new couple asks themselves. Is it too soon to say “I Love You”? How soon is too soon? Should I say it first or wait for him? Do I just blurt it out or when is the right time? Thankfully I’m painfully awkward sometimes (all of the time) and Read More
Night Stalker
On October 19, 2011 by wanderstoriesOne of the scariest experiences I’ve had while traveling abroad was in the Greek Islands. I’d been in Greece about 9 days, where I’d traveled a bit on the mainland, around Athens, and to the island of Mykonos, before parting ways with my Australian friends and setting off alone. Before heading to Santorini and later Read More
Venetian Nights
On September 15, 2011 by wanderstoriesGo see Venice at night they said. Soak up the romance of an evening in the floating city.
Right.
Travel Virgin
On August 28, 2011 by wanderstoriesYou always remember your first time.
Although I traveled to Spain in my teens, I don’t consider that my first shot at world travel. Maybe I was too young to truly experience it – maybe it was because I was with classmates – but either way, we’ll skip over it for now. The two hot Spanish brothers I lived with are owed a blog post for themselves anyways.
